El segundo número del Boletín de la Asociación Paraguaya de Enfermería (APE) se centra en la pandemia del Coronavirus, temática actual que ha puesto a los Sistema de Salud de todos los países ante un desafío muy importante. Esta realidad ha visibilizado a las y los trabajadores de la salud obligándolos a mantenerse en pie durante horas, incluso días, alejándolos de sus familias; soportando el cansancio además de la impaciencia e incertidumbre propia de tener un familiar con esta enfermedad.
Queda en evidencia que ni el país con el mejor equipamiento médico estaba listo para hacerle frente a la difícil situación, y Paraguay menos aún.
En esta pandemia, destaca el papel fundamental que han debido jugar los profesionales de Enfermería de Paraguay que están poniendo todo el esfuerzo y corazón en la tarea diaria por salvar las vidas de los infectados, incluyendo la de ellos mismos que además, deben enfrentar el estigma del posible contagio a otros y el escaso equipamiento de los servicios de salud del país.
A lo anterior, se suma, el grave déficit de recursos humanos en Enfermería, realidad que ya padecía el Sistema de Salud; sin embargo, la coyuntura actual ha agudizado esta problemática, aumentando las licencias por enfermedad de base, embarazos, aislamiento y los numerosos colegas que van de reposo por contagio o aislamiento. Todas estas situaciones han disminuido considerablemente la dotación de profesionales y han expuesto a las enfermeras y enfermeros a aumentar o triplicar los esfuerzos.
En este contexto, el riesgo para las enfermeras no sólo ha sido físico, también la salud mental se ha visto afectada. Y no es para menos. El déficit, y en algunas ocasiones, la falta de Equipos de Protección Personal (EPI) se ha convertido en una constante desde el inicio de la pandemia que se ha llevado vidas humanas y ha traido pérdidas económicas para las y los trabajadores, y para el Estado también. Junto con ello, ha cambiado nuestra propia normalidad y ha dejado en evidencia la necesidad de invertir en un sector clave del país como es la salud pública y su personal.
En este editorial queremos destacar la realidad de países fraternos y la solidaridad de nuestra organización con ellos. Según informes publicados de organizaciones fraternas COFEN Brasil cuenta con 500 personas del área de salud contagiadas, en Argentina suman más de 80 las muertes por COVID 19 entre Médicos y Enfermeras. Perú, según informes del Colegio de Enfermeras, registra que han fallecido 71 profesionales de Enfermería y cerca de 92 técnicos en Enfermería.
En Paraguay la situación sigue siendo grave: la falta y provisión discontinua de EPI, la fragilidad de un sistema con poca inversión e infraestructura, son realidades que desbordan las instituciones de salud y con ello el sistema en su conjunto.
En estos meses de pandemia, se han realizado muchas denuncias de corrupción: en el manejo de la provisión de insumos, en la creación de estructuras, entre otras. A todo esto, se suma el reinicio de un proceso del dengue que sin duda afectará aún más esta situación.
Enérgicamente expresamos que no necesitamos hermosos discursos de las autoridades, exigimos hechos y no palabras; condiciones adecuadas de trabajo, remuneración justa y aplicación de la carrera profesional.
Rendimos también un homenaje a las 20 colegas que ya han perdido la vida cuidando de todo un país; la Enfermería de Paraguay está de luto.
